Ideas and recipes for camping snacks

Food brings people together and makes everyone relax, snacks are ESSENTIAL for camping! Savoury camping snacks and sweet treat ideas are all included! I'm about eating balanced...mostly wholesome eating with some fun extra stuff here and there.

Campfire Popcorn

What a classic camping snack - popcorn!! SO fun to sit around the fire and make it together! Use these easy instructions with oil, popcorn kernels, and a pot! Then add your favorite flavour for a sweet snack or a salty one!!

Popcorn in a bowl by the fire.

Copycat Heavenly Hunks

Just like the popular costco snack, make your very own healthy hunks at home and enjoy around camp.

Stacked oat and chocolate heavenly chunks on a wood cutting board.

Camping Charcuterie Board

Quick and easy, this is a no-cook, perfect for a wholesome camping snack! The fun part is you can use whatever ingredients you love and have with you! Tip: Have this later on the camping trip to clean out the cooler!

Meat, grapes, hummus, crackers, pickles on a platter.

S'mores Trail Mix

A delicious treat to enjoy with the family! Who won't love this sweet treat of cereal, marshmellos, little cookies, and chocolate!

Marshmallows, mini graham crackers, and chocolate chips in a jar.

Rhubarb Fruit Leather

This recipe shares the easy steps to making your own fruit leather! It's perfect to make if you have any ripe fruit (not just rhubarb). These last a very long time, I like to make them at the start of the summer and enjoy them for all the camping trips!

Rosemary Almonds

Salty nuts eaten around a campfire? They always hit the spot! Make a quick batch of this nutrient dense snack before you get to the campground.

Roasted almond in a loaf pan with rosemary beside it.

Healthy Homemade Graham Crackers

Keen for a healthy camping trip? Make your own graham crackers! This recipe uses ground-up oats as the base with a traditional flavor!

Peanut Protein Bars

An easy no bake recipe that's sweet and salty! With protein powder, peanut butter, honey, peanuts, and rolled oats that's so simple!

Healthy Banana Muffins with Applesauce

These fluffy muffins are especially a hit for toddlers and kiddos! Add chocolate chips or nuts for extra fun!

Easy Potato Foil Packets

Cheesy herb potatoes roasted over the fire or grill - YUM. Simple ingredients that will fuel your camping spirit. A delicious campfire cookout snack!

Roasted potatoes in tin foil with sour cream and chives on top.

Cinnamon Almond Granola

Prep this before heading out on a camp trip - throw all the ingredients together and bake! A great snack that's high in nutrient especially fiber and protein.

Easy Pan Fried Chickpeas

These can be made on a camp stove at the campground or prepped before heading out on your adventure! A salty camping snack with incredible spices! Tip: If you want to make these at the campsite just measure and pack the spices in a little bag before you go.

Olive Oil Cookies with Chocolate Chips & Almonds

Camping trips need to have cookies! This is one of my favorite sweet treat recipes. They are soft, yet crispy on the outside and such incredible flavor.

Savory Hand Pies

A great snack to make ahead for camping! They can be frozen and tossed right into the freezer before heading out. Fill them with whatever savoury filling you love (ideas in the recipe post)! I would fill them with mushrooms, cheese, and herbs!!

3 half circle baked hand pies.

Ground Beef Jerky

A great high protein snack! If you have a dehydrator and ground beef make your very own. Or if you are in a pinch pick up your favorite jerky to pack along!

Oatmeal Bliss Balls

Super simple ingredients to make these cost-effective energy balls! They are made with raisins and chocolate chips for an energizing snack.

Camping Skillet Pizza

How fun is it to make your own pizza over the grill! You will want a pan you can put over the fire, your favorite pizza toppings and you are on your way!

No Bake Protein Bars

The base of these bars is hemp hearts, nut butter, almond flour, and maple syrup! With chocolate on top! They are easy to make and a perfect energy boost for your next adventure.

Going biking while you are on your camping trip? Here's my top cycling snacks to pack along!

Something I've learned from years of camping is that if it's a colder camping trip you will often need more calories aka snacks as this will keep you warm (everyone wants to sit around the fire and have snacks when it's kinda cold!).

How I store my camping food

I often get asked how to store food and keep it cold while camping. I personally try to bring a lot of stuff that doesn't need to be in the cooler. However, if I run out of space in the cooler or the ice melts and I need something cold, I look for a cold stream or lake. I will put my food or snacks into a sealing container and into the lake by the campsite with a rock on top so it doesn't float away!

Secondly I create my own cooler effect with blankets. I place the food in the shade (maybe in a shady van) then place a bunch of blankets on top! This keeps the food cool and away from the heat.

At night I always make sure the food it's either locked up in the van, in a bear safe locker, or we make a food hang so no animals can get into it.
