Hemp cookies are a super tasty treat that happen to be really wholesome and high in protein from the hemp hearts and almond flour!
I used my banana protein bars recipe and shifted the recipe into a cookie version, without banana. Honestly, you can't taste the hemp hearts; it's a deep, sweet flavour. My family loves these, and I think you will too!

Things to note about some of the ingredients:
- Hemp hearts: I think my favorite source of protein is hemp! It's so versatile and unique nd it can be used in smoothies, baked goods, sauces, or sprinkled on top of anything. With 9 grams of protein per 3 tablespoons, it's my go-to. You would think there would be a strong hemp heart flavor, but I mostly taste the sweetness and cinnamon!
- Flour: Whole wheat or white flour can be used in this recipe; however, whole grain flour contains more protein and nutrients, so use it if you have it.
- Almond flour: Using almond flour makes these cookies dense and chewy. I really love the texture. I also use it because it is a great source of protein.
- Flax seeds: I choose to use ground flax seeds so the body can absorb more nutrition from the seeds. If you only have the whole seeds, you can grind them in a coffee maker or blender until they are a powder (when doing it in a blender, I find doing 1-2 cups at a time works best).
- Sugar: Any sugar can be used for this recipe - brown sugar, white sugar, cane sugar, monk fruit, truvia - they will all work. I use coconut sugar because I love the taste! I haven't tested this recipe with a liquid sweetener like honey or maple syrup.
- Oil: I use olive oil for these cookies with hemp hearts. For the best oil option, look for a cold-pressed, organic oil, preferably stored in a dark-coloured bottle (to prevent it from going rancid), such as sunflower oil, grapeseed oil, or melted coconut oil.
- Chocolate chips: In this recipe, I used dark chocolate chips. I feel better about giving these chocolate chips to my kids because they contain less sugar and additives (and we are mostly dairy-free). However, any chocolate chips can be used, of course!

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175C). Place all the dry ingredients into a bowl (flour, almond flour, coconut sugar, ground flax, cinnamon, salt). Whisk together until everything is well combined.
- Add the egg, milk, oil, and chocolate chips. It may seem dry at first, but keep mixing.
3. I like to knead with my hands if needed. You will have a thick dough ball once everything is combined.
4. With a tablespoon, create large scoops and form into balls. Press down slightly on the pan. Bake for 18-20 minutes at 350°Farhenhiet (175C).
