This energy-boosting turmeric banana smoothie is a must-try! With a mix of turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon spices, alongside fresh bananas, fresh dates, and hemp hearts, it's so DELICIOUS. If you want a recipe with fresh turmeric, I recommend this pineapple protein smoothie.

This is a smoothie I make again and again, and don't get tired of it. If you love golden lattes, you will love this! It's creamy and sweet. There's a high chance that most of the ingredients are in your house right now. I often make this blend as an afternoon energy drink if I'm not making this banana matcha frappe.

Ingredients and substitutions

Bananas, milk, dates, golden milk mix, hemp hearts on a counter.
  • I use a homemade golden spice mix which is made from powdered turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and pepper. The recipe is down below in the recipe card to make my golden spice mix, it can be used for warm or cold golden lattes, smoothies, and baking. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has benefits activated by pepper. We all chatter about turmeric because it supports anti-inflammation, the immune system, memory, as well as soreness and digestion. For another snack recipe with warming spices, try these ginger energy balls with fresh ginger.
  • Fresh bananas make this smoothie super creamy! The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie will be. Alternatively, you could use 2 frozen bananas and skip the ice cubes. If you love creamy banana smoothies, try this thick strawberry banana smoothie.
  • Milk, any type, your favorite type, or whatever you have in the fridge today can be used in this smoothie! I use organic unsweetened almond milk.
  • Hemp hearts are in here as a protein boost! An amazing source of plant-based protein, it also makes this smoothie creamy. Hemp hearts don't have a strong taste, so this is easy to hide from picky eaters. If you don't have any on hand, that's alright, you can make this smoothie without them too, or replace it with any protein powder.
  • Medjool dates give the smoothie a deep flavor! Alternatively, you can use 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup.
  • When testing this smoothie, I found ice cubes were the key to making this smoothie thick and cold!

Banana, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, hemp hearts, in vitamix blender.

First, put all the soft, non-frozen ingredients (banana, dates, milk, 'golden spices', hemp hearts or protein powder) into the blender.

Ice on top of banana turmeric smoothie ingredients in blender before blending.

Place the ice cubes on top, as this is best practice when making smoothies (it will make blending easier for your blender and create a great texture).

Blend for 30 seconds or until completely creamy, and the ice cubes and dates are fully blended.

For a thick smoothie, a good blender is key! I use my Vitamix blender daily and think it is the number one purchase for making healthy food in the kitchen!

The bessssst smoothie. This has been my go to recipe lately. I swap the hemp hearts for flax seed and the dates for a little bit of maple syrup because I don’t have those ingredients in the house normally, but either way it is delicious!!
