Why you'll love this smoothie:

  • This simple carrot smoothie recipe tastes like carrot cake, but it's wholesome enough for snack time or breakfast!
  • It's the perfect smoothie to pull out the vitamix (high powder blender) to make a super creamy smoothie!
  • This carrot and banana smoothie is highly nutritious like this pineapple celery smoothie!
  • Carrot smoothie benefits include being a good source of vitamin A, supporting blood sugar levels, and a great way to eat fiber!

Ingredients & nutrition details

Here are the simple ingredients that you will need to make this smoothie. I love adding nutrition insight from my schooling in nutrition, you will read that below too!

Raw carrots, raisins, pumpkin seeds, rolled oats, spices, frozen bananas, maple syurp, and milk on measured for a smoothie.
  • Fresh carrot: The main flavor of this smoothie is carrot! Use raw chunks of carrot or if you don't have a high-power blender grate it first. Carrots are an awesome source of vitamin A which supports eye health.
  • Maple syrup: A small amount of maple syrup sweetens this smoothie! Maple syrup is a good source of the mineral manganese.
  • Nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger: These spices create the full carrot cake flavor! Specifically, these spices are warming, they help with detoxification and digestion.
  • Rolled oats: Oats make this smoothie creamy and increase the protein keeping you full longer. Quick oats can also be used.
  • Raisins: Adding raisins to this simple carrot smoothie adds a sweetener and mimics real carrot cake. If you don't like raisins omit them. Raisins are a good source of iron.
  • Pumpkin seeds: Another nutrient-dense ingredient - pumpkin seeds are high in zinc and iron.
  • Milk: Any milk can be used for this smoothie. I like to use almond milk, but oat milk, soy milk, or cow's milk is fine too!
  • Bananas: The important base is a carrot banana smoothie then with all the other added ingredients it becomes a carrot cake smoothie! Frozen bananas are essential to make a cold thick texture. Bananas are a great source of potassium.

See the recipe card below for exact quantities.

How to make a carrot smoothie

Follow these step-by-step photos from my kitchen to make your own healthy carrot smoothie blend!

All the smoothie ingredients in the bottom of the vitamix container.

Place all the ingredients into the blender with the frozen bananas on top of everything. Placing the frozen ingredients at the top will make it easier for the blender to do its work.

Blend for 1-2 minutes until the smoothie has no lumps. Pour into glasses and enjoy this healthy carrot cake blend right away!

Top tips for the best carrot cake smoothie

If you don't have a Vitamix or a high-power blender grate the carrot before adding it and soak the raisins in hot water (then drain them) so they are soft and blend better.

Start the blender on low speed and increase it slowly to high speed to support the blades!

Be sure to use frozen bananas for a thick smoothie! If you want it thicker add more frozen banana to this carrot smoothie!

Variations and add in's

I like to add some personality and nutritional boosters, to all my smoothies. Here are some ideas to add to this carrot-ginger smoothie:

  • Make it sweeter: Add more maple syrup or use dates instead.
  • Add greens: Make this a green carrot smoothie by adding a large handful of spinach, kale, or your favorite greens.
  • Top it: Use whipped cream or vegan coconut cream to top it, making this a carrot cake dessert smoothie!
  • Fresh ginger: Use fresh ginger instead of powdered ginger for a delicious carrot ginger smoothie with all the carrot cake vibes.
  • Carrot protein smoothie: Add a handful of nuts, a scoop of plain protein powder, or 3 tablespoons of hemp hearts to increase the protein in this carrot smoothie.
  • Swap the carrots: Instead of carrots use cooked sweet potato!
  • Carrot cake smoothie bowl: Make this smoothie extra thick to eat from a bowl by only using ¾ cup milk, and adding more frozen bananas if needed.

Recommended for smoothies

For a thick smoothie, a good blender is key! I use my Vitamix blender daily and think it is the number one purchase for making healthy food in the kitchen!

Can I use frozen carrots?

Frozen carrots work fine for this carrot cake smoothie! Be sure they are in smaller chunks or grated when added to the blender for the best texture.

Can I use cooked carrots?

Cooked carrots can be used in this carrot banana smoothie however this can alter the taste of the healthy carrot cake smoothie!

Leftover smoothie?

If you have leftovers of this simple carrot smoothie here are two ways to use it!

Method #1 Freeze the smoothie into an ice cube tray and add one or two cubes to future smoothies. Or reblend these ice cubes with ½ cup milk into a smoothie for another day!

Method #2 Make it into popsicles! Pour leftover smoothie into a popsicle mold and pop it in the freezer. This is the popsicle mold I like to use.
