    Ingredients Needed for Mango Popsicles

Two ingredients, frozen mango and strawberries measured on the table for mango popsicles.
    • Mango: fresh (unfrozen) mango or frozen mango will work for this recipe! If you are using frozen mango you will need to thaw the mango first by pouring boiling water over it or leaving it to thaw at room temperature.
    • Strawberries (optional): fresh (unfrozen) strawberries or frozen strawberries will work fine for this recipe. You can also make this recipe without strawberries if you prefer!

    A Note about Mangoes

The darker the orange flesh of the mango the sweeter it will be! The paler yellow or green the mango flesh is the more sour or unripe it will be!

Key nutrition factors: Mangos are high in fiber, vitamin C, antioxidants, and folate.

    Instructions

Follow these step by step photos to make your own homemade mango popsicles. See the recipe card below for quantities.

Thawing mango chunks in the sink with hot water.

If your mango is frozen start by defrosting them slightly. Either leave them to melt at room temperature or pour 1 kettle of boiling water over them in the sink to soften them.

Mango chunks in a vitamix ready to be blended.

Place the chunks of peeled mango into the blender container, secure the lid, and blend until very smooth. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides.

Strawberry Sliced in a silicone popsicle mold.

If you are using strawberries add the sliced strawberries to the popsicle mold.

Silicone popsicle mold filled with mango puree.

Evenly distribute the mango puree in the popsicle molds. Add the popsicle sticks if you haven't yet. Place the popsicles into the freezer for at least 4 hours.

    Top tips

    • In the freezer, liquids expand. Leave ¼ inch at the top of your popsicle mold for this natural expansion.
    • Taste the puree mix before freezing and add honey if you desire sweeter popsicles! Keep in mind when food freezes it tastes less intense and less sweet.
    • Make popsicles the day before serving for the best fully frozen results.

    Optional Variations

Change it up by adding different fun ingredients!

    • Instead of strawberries: Add other chunks of fruit like more mangoes, blueberries, blackberries, or cherries.
    • Popsicles from your smoothies: Use your smoothie and freeze it into a fruit popsicle!
    • Creamy Mango Popsicles: Add coconut milk or yogurt (the higher the fat content the creamier popsicles will be! So use cream, Greek yogurt, or premium coconut milk).
    • Make it sweeter: Add some honey or maple syrup! Or choose very ripe, bright orange mangos as they are the sweetest!
    • Add lemon or lime juice to increase the bursting flavor.

    Equipment

Blender: To make homemade mango popsicles you will need a blender. You could also use a food processor to make the mango puree smooth.

Popsicle mold: You will need a popsicle mold to make these easy mango popsicles. I got my popsicle mold from amazon.ca two years ago, I love that it is silicone to easily pop out the frozen ice popsicle. If you don't have a mold see the FAQ section to see what container you could use instead with wooden popsicle sticks.

    How to Store Homemade Popsicles

After freezing these easy mango popsicles for 4-8 hours in the mold, you can pop them out (run them under warm water if you need help getting them out of the mold), and wrap them in saran wrap, wax paper, or parchment paper, so they don't stick together. Then place the frozen popsicles into a Tupperware, glass container, or sealing bag. They will stay good in the freezer for 4 months. After 4 months the popsicle will not go bad however, they may become icy and not taste as fresh.

    FAQ

How long does it take homemade popsicles to freeze?

It takes at least 3.5 hours for popsicles to fully freeze. I tested freezing these popsicles in two different freezers, one freezer made them completely firm after 3.5 hours and the other after 4 hours. For best results make popsicles the day before you enjoy them.

My popsicles are stuck! How do I get homemade popsicles out of the mold?

Run hot warm over the popsicle mold for 10-20 seconds, wait a minute for the popsicle to soften, and then remove it from the mold. If it doesn't come out do the same thing again! (This is why silicone popsicle molds are the best, they just come right out!)

What can I use instead of a popsicle mold?

If you do not have a popsicle mold you can use:
    - rinsed out yogurt cups
    - a large ice cube tray
    - Dixie cups
    - small cups
    - a muffin tin with silicone liners
Choose one of these containers to use. Fill with the popsicle mix, and partially freeze, then place tin foil over top and pop a popsicle stick through the tin foil to keep the stick upright.

    Equipment

    • 1 blender
    • 1 popsicle mold

    Ingredients

    • 4 ½ cups large chunks of frozen mango, or 3 ½ cups fresh peeled mango chunks
    • 4 strawberries, sliced (optional) (fresh or frozen)

    Instructions

    • If you are using strawberries and they are frozen strawberries, take them out to thaw now.
    • Using frozen mango: Thaw your mango slightly. Either leave mangoes on the counter for an hour and then drain any liquid, OR place the mangoes in a mesh colander in the sink and pour a full kettle of boiling water over the mangoes. Once the mangoes are soft (it's fine if they are frozen and cold in the middle). Then place the mangoes in the blender and blend the mangoes into a smooth purée.
    • Using fresh mango: Peel and cut your mangoes into chunks. Purée the mango in a blender until smooth.
    • Pour into mold: If using strawberries, place the sliced strawberries into the popsicle mold. Evenly pour the mango puree equally into the popsicle tray. Add the sticks in they aren't in already.
    • Freeze: Place in the freezer for at least 4-8 hours (depending on your freezer it may be longer). Serve and eat cold! Enjoy within 4 months.

    Notes

To make them sweeter: The brighter orange the mango is the sweeter the fruit is! If your mango is more pale yellow, add 2 teaspoon of honey or maple syrup to make these popsicles sweeter.
Frozen mango chunk size: If your chunks of frozen mango are small you can use 4 cups instead of 4 ½ cups. I use 4 ½ cups of frozen as there were many air pockets in the measuring cup due to the large chunks.
This recipe makes 8 popsicles. My popsicle mold holds ⅓ cup of liquid for each popsicle. It will depend on the size of your mold for how many mango popsicles it will make for you.
If you don't have a popsicle mold: use a large ice cube tray, muffin tin with silicone liners or rinsed-out yogurt cups. When the popsicles are partially frozen cover them with tin foil and pop a popsicle stick into place (the tin foil will hold it in the upright position).
My popsicle mold: Here's the popsicle mold I use and love!
